The Canadian Automotive Repair and Service (CARS) Council’s new web-based training service, CARS On Demand, is offering collision industry workplace training over the Internet 24/7, whenever and wherever it is needed.
In partnership suppliers of training programs, including paint companies, CARS has developed more than 140 training courses on topics specific to the collision industry. The collision curriculum within CARS On Demand includes topics in business management, technical training and workplace performance.
The training curriculum first offered in May of 2005 as ‘Collision TV’ became a featured part of the CARS interactive distance learning network and, in June of 2007, became an integrated part of CARS On Demand. According to CARS, this training content was embraced by industry almost immediately because it demonstrated bottom-line value through timely and effective training specific to industry’s needs.
On the subject of new low-VOC coatings products, paint and coating manufacturers were quick to respond to the issue by developing up-to-date content for CARS On Demand.
For example, a “Waterborne Paints for Distributors” course from DuPont was developed to provide an explanation of the new VOC requirements and introduces the solutions needed to meet these new requirements plus new waterborne products. Participants in this course will be able to understand the new low VOC regulatory environment, increase their knowledge about waterborne basecoat systems and understand the basics and best practices for a successful conversion to waterborne products.
As well, BASF has designed a “Glasurit Clearcoat” training program to provide paint technicians with the skills to select, catalyze and successfully apply Glasurit 923-Series clearcoats. Technicians who successfully complete the course will be able to select the appropriate Glasurit 923-Series clearcoat for each job, demonstrate the proper steps for catalyzing Glasurit 923-Series clearcoats, successfully apply Glasurit 923-Series clearcoats, select the appropriate Glasurit clearcoat for warranty repairs and deliver great looking finishes while meeting all required VOC regulations.
